Kia is poised to introduce an array of new electric van models, notably including a High Roof iteration of its PV5 series. This expanded version of the PV5 has been observed in public, showcasing a significantly more voluminous design compared to its standard counterpart. The PV5 series, stemming from Kia's innovative Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) division, has already established itself as a frontrunner in both consumer and business sectors since its debut last year, distinguishing itself through advanced mobility solutions.
The PV5's adaptable skateboard-style architecture and Flexible Body System empower Kia to produce a wide spectrum of configurations and dimensions. While critical components such as batteries and motors are standardized, the remaining modules are designed for interchanging, similar to building blocks. Kia expanded its offerings last month at the Busan Mobility Show by unveiling three new PV5 variants, including a 7-seater Passenger model, Prime models, and the Cargo High Roof. The Cargo High Roof variant was recently sighted navigating South Korean roads, highlighting its increased height by 295 mm over the standard Cargo model. It also boasts an enhanced interior layout for seamless movement from the driver's area to the rear, and will be available in enclosed and refrigerated options, each equipped with a safety feature alerting drivers if the rear door is ajar while parking or reversing.
With orders for the PV5 Passenger 7-seater now open in the UK, starting at £33,195, the PV5 Cargo High Roof is anticipated to hit the market this autumn. Kia plans to continue broadening the PV5 family with a forthcoming 5-seater taxi model, a specialized truck for small enterprises, and versions tailored for outdoor and recreational pursuits. The PV5 Passenger model offers a choice of two battery capacities, 51.5 kWh and 71.2 kWh, yielding WLTP ranges up to 183 and 256 miles, respectively. The Cargo model mirrors these battery options, providing slightly extended WLTP ranges of 184 and 258 miles. Looking ahead, Kia is set to launch the larger PV7 next year, followed by the PV9 by 2030, demonstrating a clear commitment to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio.
