Richard Mille Unveils Cycling-Inspired Tourbillon Watch in Collaboration with Colnago

Instructions

Richard Mille, renowned for its strong ties to the sports world, has once again merged its horological expertise with athletic performance through a new collaboration. The luxury watchmaker has teamed up with Italian bicycle manufacturer Colnago to introduce a limited-edition tourbillon timepiece. This innovative watch seamlessly integrates design elements and engineering principles from high-performance bicycles directly onto the wearer's wrist, celebrating the shared pursuit of precision and excellence between the two domains.

Limited to an exclusive production of merely 50 units, the new RM 64-01 Tourbillon Colnago watch showcases a distinctive tubular aesthetic, reminiscent of the RM 012 Tourbillon model and, more significantly, the structural integrity of a bicycle frame. Its intricate movement, composed of 274 individual components, prioritizes both extreme lightness and transparent design, creating a sense of depth and volume. Central to its mechanics is a skeletonized, microblasted grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges, housing a gear train. A barrel, positioned at 1 o'clock, ensures a substantial power reserve of 65 hours. Furthermore, a variable-inertia tourbillon, located at 7 o'clock, ingeniously mimics the intricate mechanics of a bicycle's drivetrain. A subtle yet significant detail lies in the titanium upper bridges, where a star-shaped motif pays homage to Colnago's iconic Master steel bike, a legendary model from the 1980s.

In a pioneering move for Richard Mille's sports watch collection, 5N red gold takes center stage, elegantly adorning both the flange and the crown cap. The watch's casing is meticulously fashioned from lightweight white quartz TPT, complemented by a striking new shade of azure blue quartz TPT that highlights the notched bezels. This harmonious color scheme directly reflects the palette found on Colnago's state-of-the-art C68 bicycle, forging an undeniable visual link between the two luxury objects. To further emphasize this athletic partnership, Richard Mille enlisted the expertise of four-time Tour de France champion, Tadej Pogačar, to unveil the new timepiece. Pogačar, known for his victories achieved while riding Colnago bikes, perfectly embodies the spirit of the collaboration. The brand's involvement in professional cycling is well-established, with legendary rider Mark Cavendish, a 'friend of the brand,' frequently sporting Richard Mille's technologically advanced creations during his illustrious career, which includes setting the record for the most Tour de France stage wins.

It appears to be only a matter of time before the RM 61-01 Tourbillon Colnago becomes a familiar sight, both on and off the cycling tracks, embodying a blend of horological artistry and competitive spirit.
