While my appreciation for AI in artistic realms, as exemplified by artists like Holly Herndon, is well-established, I typically find most AI-generated music, particularly from platforms such as Suno, to be remarkably unengaging. However, a recent encounter with 1010Benja's captivating track, "Semiramis' Dream," has profoundly shifted my perspective, forcing a re-evaluation of my ingrained biases against AI's creative potential.
The Artist's Bold Stance on AI Integration
Benja openly embraces the use of generative AI in his latest extended play, titled Time Has Nothing To Do With What You Choose.... While the other compositions on this EP may not reach the same artistic heights as his 2024 work, Ten Total, the opening track, "Semiramis' Dream," is undeniably captivating. It bursts forth with a vibrant jungle rhythm and the unmistakably human, incredible vocal performance of Benja himself.

One might easily overlook the AI components of "Semiramis' Dream." The track cleverly avoids the typical markers of AI generation. Even the most overt AI elements, such as the backing choir, are masterfully woven into the fabric of the song, blending seamlessly with the hyperpop-inspired, rapid-fire vocal effects. The heavily processed and artificial-sounding voices, a common feature in contemporary pop music, are skillfully utilized by Benja to mask their algorithmic origins.
