Black Bear Appoints Bianca Parkes and Heather Phillips to Lead Marketing and Publicity

Instructions

Black Bear, the independent studio recognized for producing cinematic works such as Sydney Sweeney's boxing drama "Christy," has announced the appointments of Bianca Parkes and Heather Phillips to lead its marketing and publicity efforts. These key personnel additions are a significant step in the company's broader initiative to establish a robust presence in U.S. theatrical distribution. Parkes and Phillips will report directly to Benjamin Kramer, Black Bear's president of U.S. distribution, further strengthening a team that includes notable industry veterans like David Spitz, former head of distribution at Lionsgate.

Benjamin Kramer emphasized the importance of these new hires, stating that they represent a crucial milestone in Black Bear's growth as a domestic distributor. He highlighted Parkes's and Phillips's deep understanding of contemporary audiences and their proven track records in creating innovative and impactful campaigns. Kramer expressed enthusiasm for their contributions as Black Bear continues to build a leading theatrical distribution business, ensuring audiences connect with compelling films and visionary filmmakers through diverse platforms.

Black Bear, originally founded in 2011 as a production studio, ventured into domestic distribution in 2025 with the release of "Christy." Despite the film's modest box office performance, the company is set to launch an ambitious slate of 12 films annually. Upcoming titles include David Leitch’s "Jason Statham Stole My Bike," Julia Cox’s "A Woman in the Sun" featuring Renée Zellweger, Andrew Patterson’s "The Rivals of Amziah King" starring Matthew McConaughey, and "Spa Weekend" with Leslie Mann. Bianca Parkes, assuming the role of Head of Marketing, brings seven years of experience from Neon, where she contributed to Oscar-winning films such as "Parasite" and "Anora," and oversaw the growth of its merchandising division. Heather Phillips, named Head of Publicity, previously spent a decade at 20th Century Fox, managing campaigns for critically acclaimed movies like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "The Revenant," and also served as Chief Communications Officer for 101 Studios, home to popular series like "Yellowstone."

These strategic leadership appointments by Black Bear underscore a forward-thinking approach to expanding its influence within the film industry. By bringing together experienced professionals, the studio is not only enhancing its marketing and publicity capabilities but also demonstrating a firm commitment to delivering engaging content to audiences and supporting the creative vision of filmmakers. This initiative signals a bright future for Black Bear, reinforcing the idea that strategic leadership and innovative approaches are essential for success in the dynamic world of cinematic distribution.
