Scatena & Rosner Films has obtained the distribution rights for the LGBTQ independent dramedy titled “Actual Nobodies” across North America, Australia, and New Zealand. This acquisition was finalized during the recent Cannes Market. Written and directed by Alex Wyse, the film features performances from veteran actress Didi Conn and emerging talent Austin P. McKenzie. Meanwhile, Media Luna New Films from Germany has secured the rights for all other international territories, with the United States release scheduled for early 2027.
“Actual Nobodies” explores the journey of two isolated individuals who forge an unexpected connection. The narrative centers on Joyce, portrayed by Conn, an eccentric woman in her seventies, and Anthony, played by McKenzie, a young gay man seeking solitude, as their lives intersect when Anthony rents a room from Joyce. The cast also includes Greta Quispe, Paul Lieber, Will Chase, Jason Veasey, Olli Haaskivi, and David T. Patterson. Director Alex Wyse expressed that the film is a deeply personal project, focusing on characters who often feel overlooked by society and the poignant ways they discover kinship. Both Scatena & Rosner Films and Media Luna New Films praised Wyse’s storytelling for its blend of humor, emotional depth, and universal themes, emphasizing its potential to resonate widely with audiences and buyers alike. Cody Lassen of Alder Street Productions, a producer for the film, noted the immediate and profound connection the film has made with viewers, highlighting the distributors’ understanding of its emotional core and market potential.
The creative team behind “Actual Nobodies” includes cinematographer Al Bouchillon, editor Sara Corrigan, composer Max Mueller, costume designer Nadia Durham, and production designer Rachel Aileen Abraham, with filming taking place on location in New Jersey. This project marks another collaboration for Lassen and Wyse, who previously worked together on the horror-comedy “Summoning Sylvia.” That film achieved a theatrical release, was acquired by Starz, and earned a perfect critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, setting a promising precedent for their latest venture.
