Starz Greenlights 'Power: Legacy' with Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr.

Instructions

Starz has given the green light to “Power: Legacy,” a continuation within the popular “Power” television franchise. This new installment is poised to reunite two pivotal figures from the series, Joseph Sikora, reprising his role as Tommy Egan, and Michael Rainey Jr., returning as Tariq St. Patrick.

Both actors have previously spearheaded their own successful spin-offs within the “Power” universe. Sikora led “Power Book IV: Force” for three seasons, while Rainey was at the forefront of “Power Book II: Ghost” for four seasons. Their characters, who parted ways in the original series' conclusion, made a notable return together in the “Force” finale. In the upcoming “Legacy” series, the narrative will center on Tommy's return to New York City and his subsequent partnership with Tariq. The series has received an initial order for eight episodes for its first season.

Executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson expressed his excitement about the new series, emphasizing that this chapter is the most ambitious yet for the “Power” franchise. He noted that fans have eagerly anticipated seeing Tariq and Tommy together again, and their reunion will see them taking over New York City. Jackson highlighted the special nature of bringing Joseph and Michael back, as they have transformed their characters into true icons of the “Power” universe. Gary Lennon, a veteran writer for “Power,” will serve as showrunner and executive producer for “Legacy.” The series originates from a pilot script co-written by Lennon and Kendra Chapman Davis. “Power” creator Courtney A. Kemp also serves as an executive producer through End of Episode, alongside Jackson via G-Unit Film and Television. Mark Canton of Canton Entertainment, Davis, Sikora, and Chris Selak are also executive producers, with Rainey credited as a producer. “Power: Legacy” is a collaborative production between Starz and its former parent company, Lionsgate Television, marking a first for the franchise as Lionsgate previously licensed other series entries to the premium cable network. Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, stated that the decision to reunite Joseph and Michael was a direct response to fan demand, promising a new chapter that blends the franchise's enduring legacy with innovative storytelling. Lennon also shared his enthusiasm for continuing Tommy and Tariq's story, anticipating an electrifying dynamic as they navigate their shared city, the challenges of their world, and the addictive allure of power.

“Legacy” will be the fifth spin-off from the original “Power” series. This expanding universe also includes the prequel “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” which is set to premiere its fifth and final season soon, and the forthcoming prequel “Power: Origins.” The “Power” series has been a cornerstone of Starz's programming, with its spin-offs consistently drawing large audiences, demonstrating its significant impact and enduring popularity within the television landscape.
